WELCOME

WE ARE  THE ASHUA -HIGHLAND FOUNDATION, A SOCIAL CHANGE ORGANIZATION AND VICTIM SERVICE PROVIDER, DEDICATED TO BREAKING CYCLES OF VIOLENCE AND POVERTY IN DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES.
WE BELIEVE THAT THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO PREVENT VIOLENCE IS THROUGH POSITIVE INTERVENTION IN THE LIVES OF THOSE MOST AFFECTED BY IT.

Understanding Homicide Co-Victimization

Homicide has a profound impact, not just on the victims themselves but on their extended network of family and friends –the Survivors. While it is estimated that each homicide victim leaves behind an average of 7 to 10 close relatives and friends, the reality is that the true impact of homicide on our communities is immeasurable.

SUPPORTING HOMICIDE SURVIVORS WHILE CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE OF VICTIM SERVICES

At Ashua-Highland Foundation, our mission goes beyond providing traditional victim services. We recognize that the needs of homicide co-victims extend far beyond immediate support. We believe in a holistic approach that encompasses both healing and initiating change in the environments and conditions that lead to homicide.

HEALING THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY

Healing, Regeneration, and Positive Change From a Community Perspective

At the Ashua-Highland Foundation, we hold a profound belief in the idea of "community collective conscience." This belief is at the heart of our efforts to promote healing, regeneration, and positive change in disadvantaged communities.

Community collective conscience is the notion that communities possess a shared awareness and responsibility for their well-being. It's the understanding that a community, much like an individual, can reflect upon its experiences, learn from its history, and come together to make choices that lead to collective healing and growth.

We see communities as dynamic organisms where the well-being of one member is deeply intertwined with the well-being of all. This interconnectedness drives our mission, and is why we chose the name Ashua. We understand that violence, trauma, and poverty are not isolated experiences but part of a larger cycle that affects us all.

Through community collective conscience, we strive to empower individuals within these communities to become active agents of positive change. By fostering a shared understanding of the issues they face and a commitment to addressing them collectively, we create an environment where healing and regeneration become not just personal goals but community-wide endeavors.

In this way, our programs and initiatives are designed not just to provide services but to awaken and mobilize this collective conscience. We believe that when individuals come together, healing can be more profound, regeneration more robust, and positive change more enduring.

Through this belief, we're not just working to break the cycles of violence and poverty; we're nurturing a profound sense of community purpose and unity. Together, with collective conscience as our guide, we are on a transformative journey towards healthier, safer, and more vibrant communities
