The scholarship will go towards programs and resources deemed essential to the child's continued mental, physical, social,

academic and/or artistic development.

EXPRESSIVE ART THERAPY

ART THERAPY IS A PROVEN METHOD IN MITIGATING THE EFFECTS OF ACEs AND TOXIC STRESS IN ADULTS, CHILDREN, AND TEENS. IT IS ALSO A WAY TO HELP CHILDREN AND ADULTS  PROCESS GRIEF BY REFRAMING THE EXPERIENCE OF TRAUMA USING SYMBOLS AND METAPHOR.

RESEARCH HAS SHOWN HOW ART CAN POSITIVELY AFFECT THE WELL-BEING OF OUR BRAINS. THE PROCESSES OF CONTEMPLATION, OBSERVATION, AND SELF- EXPRESSION STIMULATE THE GROWTH OF NEURAL PATHWAYS AND INCREASE BLOOD FLOW  TO THE PART OF THE BRAIN THAT GOVERNS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE, IMPULSE CONTROL, DECISION-MAKING, AND COGNITIVE LEARNING.

AND BESIDES ALL THE TECHNICAL STUFF, ART IS AN AWESOME WAY TO HAVE FUN AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS.

MUSIC THERAPY

Music promotes well-being, enhances learning, stimulates cognitive function, improves the quality of life, and even induces happiness. Music has been shown to activate some of the broadest and most diverse networks of the brain. Music can activate almost all brain regions and networks and can help to keep a myriad of brain pathways and networks strong. In fact, there is only one other situation in which you can activate so many brain networks all at once, and that is when you participate in social activities.

NATURE THERAPY

According to the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy,

“Forest Therapy is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. Forest Therapy is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, which translates to “forest bathing.” Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition.“

AHF is dedicated to creating safe spaces in nature for victimized families and trauma-informed guides to exchange ideas meant to assist adult and underage co-victims in repairing the relationships between themselves and the world around them.

ASHUA BUILDERS

The Ashua Builders Initiative is a pretrial diversion program designed to provide educational and life skills support to adjudicated juvenile offenders. The program sets out to provide rehabilitative solutions to young people who need a second chance while also making a positive impact on disadvantaged communities. Through hands-on experiential learning, program participants learn construction skills, from building the frames and walls of tiny homes to preparing them for occupancy. Working and learning together, participants gain valuable experience for the future, including communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and project management skills. The Ashua Builders Initiative not only empowers young people to exercise their skills and abilities, but also enables them to give back to their communities by helping to provide sustainable housing solutions. The program focuses on accountability, opportunity, and building a better future for our children and, ultimately, our community as a whole.
